What Are the Recordings?

Every tenant covered by PandaDeposit is contractually required to record two walkthrough videos of the unit:

  • Move-in video – Recorded when the tenant moves in, before any furniture is in the unit, with particular focus on any pre-existing damage that is visible.
  • Move-out video – Recorded when the tenant moves out, documenting the condition of the unit at the end of the lease.

Why We Require Them

The recordings serve as an objective source of truth for the condition of your unit. Because both videos capture the same unit at the start and end of the tenancy, they make it straightforward to distinguish pre-existing conditions from new damage — protecting you as the owner and the tenant alike.

This benefits everyone:

  • For you, the videos provide clear documentation of your unit's condition, so damage doesn't come down to a dispute over memory or a disagreement about what was already there.
  • For the tenant, the videos protect them from being held responsible for damage that existed before they moved in.

Tenants are made clearly aware that recording these videos is a contractual obligation of their coverage. A tenant who declines to use the video system gives up the protection it offers them.

Checking Recording Status

You can see whether your tenant has completed their move-in and move-out recordings on the Policies page of your dashboard. Each policy shows the status of both videos alongside the other policy details.

The videos themselves are available on the issued PandaDeposit bond.
